Arrest following reports of a possible assassination attempt
Kerwinski did not reveal the suspect’s identity. Nor did the minister specify the circumstances under which the suspect was detained or exactly what actions he might have been planning.
Earlier, Karolina Galecka, a spokesperson for the Polish Ministry of the Interior and Administration, reported that the police had received information about a possible assassination attempt on Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
Following this, an emergency meeting of representatives from the security services was held at the Counter-Terrorism Centre of the Internal Security Agency of Poland.
Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the Minister-Coordinator of the Special Services, stated that the law enforcement agencies are taking the threats they have received seriously.
"We are talking about a high probability that these threats will be carried out," he emphasised.
The security services were checking information regarding the planning of an attack
Earlier, the Polish newspaper *Gazeta Wyborcza*, citing sources within government circles and the security services, reported that the threat of a possible assassination attempt had been neutralised and that the suspected perpetrators had been identified.
According to the publication, the tip-off received by the police contained specific addresses where Donald Tusk and Vladyslav Kosiniak-Kamysz might be staying, as well as details of their immediate plans.
The publication’s sources also suggested that the threat might have come from members of far-right circles.
