Ukraine and Latvia discuss winter energy aid and defense cooperation

Latvia and Latvian companies have expressed their readiness to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to Ukraine ahead of winter. Foreign Ministers Andrii Sybiha and Baiba Braže discussed strengthening the resilience of Ukraine’s power system, further defense cooperation and increasing international pressure on Russia.

Censor.NET reports this, citing Andrii Sybiha’s post on X.

During the meeting, the foreign ministers focused on Ukraine’s energy needs ahead of winter and opportunities for further support from Latvia.

"I am grateful to Latvia and Latvian businesses for their readiness to provide urgent humanitarian assistance ahead of winter. We coordinated joint steps to provide support and increase pressure on the aggressor, including through sanctions," Sybiha said.

Further defense cooperation between the two countries was a separate topic of the talks. The ministers also discussed coordinating efforts to increase sanctions pressure on Russia.

In addition, Sybiha and Braže examined the threats that Alexander Lukashenko’s regime in Belarus poses to the Baltic states and Europe as a whole.

The two sides exchanged views on possible ways to counter these threats and increase pressure on Minsk.

The specific amounts and timing of assistance to Ukraine were not specified following the meeting.
