SSU has detained taxi driver from Kramatorsk who was coordinating Russian strikes on city. PHOTOS
The Security Service of Ukraine has detained a Russian military intelligence agent in the Donetsk region who, whilst posing as a taxi driver, was gathering the coordinates of Ukrainian military personnel and critical infrastructure in Kramatorsk. He was compiling information for the Russians to facilitate further shelling.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported by the SSU press centre.
It is noted that the man used his own car to drive around the city, recording the locations of targets of interest to Russian intelligence. In addition, he would discreetly ask customers for relevant information whilst pretending to be a supporter of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, Russian military intelligence planned to use the information gathered to launch strikes against concentrations of Ukrainian troops and military equipment. The agent was also supposed to help target key electricity substations in order to leave the frontline city of Kramatorsk without electricity, heating or water supplies.
SBU officers detained the man at his home whilst he was preparing to send new coordinates to the Russian side.
The investigation established that the taxi driver had come to the attention of the Russian security services due to anti-Ukrainian comments he had made on Telegram channels. In one of the chat rooms, a representative of Russian intelligence contacted him and offered him a collaboration.
During searches of the detainee’s premises, computer equipment and a smartphone containing evidence of his alleged collaboration with the enemy were seized.
Charges and punishment
SSU investigators informed the man that he was suspected of an offence under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – treason committed under martial law.
The suspect is being held in custody without the right to bail. If found guilty, he faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
