Trump is becoming increasingly annoyed by Ukraine’s strikes on Russia’s energy sector

U.S. President Donald Trump is increasingly dissatisfied with Ukraine's use of American resources to launch attacks on Russia's energy sector. He believes that such attacks could harm American consumers.

The Wall Street Journal reports this, citing sources familiar with the discussions, according to Censor.NET.

Details

According to the publication, Trump raised the issue of Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries during a meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in New York in mid-September. Since then, Washington has asked Kyiv to halt the attacks about six times.

Ukrainian officials said they were ready to mutually cease attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure, but Russia refused, so Ukraine continued its attacks.

Against this backdrop, Trump's attitude toward Zelenskyy continued to deteriorate, sources told the WSJ.

At the same time, energy analysts cited by the publication attribute the rise in energy prices—especially for diesel—primarily to the war against Iran.

Officials in the Trump administration explain his proposal to purchase Russian diesel as an effort to lower fuel prices in the U.S. and create an economic incentive for Vladimir Putin to return to the negotiating table.

Ukrainian and European officials, on the other hand, believe that the additional revenue will allow Moscow to bolster its military budget and continue hostilities, according to the WSJ.

According to high-ranking officials in Ukraine and Europe, the U.S. also warned of a possible suspension of intelligence support or arms sales to Kyiv. U.S. officials deny that such threats were made.
