The Security Service’s counter-intelligence unit has detained another Russian agent in the Kyiv region. He turned out to be a driver for a logistics company who, on behalf of the FSB, was coordinating attacks on local energy infrastructure.
This was reported by Censor.NET, citing the SSU press centre.
Details
Among the enemy’s main ‘targets’ were the combined heat and power plants in the Kyiv region, which were resuming operations following previous shelling.
To ascertain the current state of the energy infrastructure, the suspect, under the guise of work-related trips, drove around the perimeters of the stations and filmed their facades on his mobile phone.
He would then return home, compile the footage, ‘geotag’ it on Google Maps and, adding his own comments, prepare it for sending to his FSB handler.
SSU officers documented how the agent, whilst driving a lorry, was surveying the progress of restoration work on a power unit at a local thermal power station, and detained him whilst he was preparing a "report" for the enemy.
As the investigation revealed, the suspect came to the attention of the Russians when he posted anti-Ukrainian comments on Telegram channels.
After being recruited, he communicated with the FSB via a specially created chatbot, which the Russian security service uses to gather intelligence.
As well as coordinating strikes on energy facilities, the agent tracked the locations of Defence Forces repair bases on behalf of the Russian Federation.
During searches, two mobile phones were seized from the detainee, one of which he had attempted to destroy in order to conceal evidence of his work for the Russians.
Investigators from the Security Service informed him that he was suspected of treason.
The suspect is being held in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
