Ukraine will receive 500 missiles for the Patriot system only after 2030, – media reports

The US has approved the missiles for the Patriot system, but Ukraine will have to wait years for them

Ukraine may receive 500 US-made PAC-3 MSE interceptor missiles for its Patriot systems only after 2030. The arms deal, worth $2.1 billion, has been approved for sale to Ukraine by the US State Department.

According to Censor.NET, sources familiar with the situation told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s Washington correspondent, Alex Raufoglu, about this.

"There is also no agreement on the joint production of missiles in Ukraine. The Pentagon is currently conducting a ‘further review’ of the issue of granting Kyiv a licence to produce them," the report states.

What led up to this?

It emerged yesterday that the US State Department had approved the potential sale of PAC-3 interceptor missiles to Ukraine for use with Patriot air defence systems. The total value of the contract, which is fully funded by Ukraine’s partners, is $2.1 billion.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the US State Department’s decision to authorise Ukraine to purchase 500 PAC-3 interceptor missiles for the Patriot systems. At the same time, he noted that deliveries under this contract are not scheduled to take place for several years.
