National Guard statement
"The main task is to establish the actual circumstances and whether any violations occurred in the situation in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka," the statement reads.
An internal investigation will be ordered for this purpose, while law enforcement agencies are working to establish all the circumstances and provide an independent legal assessment.
"If violations are established, those responsible will be held accountable under the law," the National Guard stressed.
The National Guard added that some relatives and members of the public had already been granted access to the premises and had been able to speak with those inside.
"We will regularly publish information about the condition of those affected and the progress of the review. No additional requests for medical assistance have been received so far," the National Guard said.
Background
- Earlier, reports circulated online alleging that on 2 November, armed individuals were holding around 40 hostages in the basement of a house in the village of Petropavlivska Borshchahivka near Kyiv. Some were reportedly in serious condition, and medics were being denied access to them.
- According to Kyiv region police, a private ambulance crew contacted them after being prevented from reaching one person.
- Police said that reports of people being unlawfully detained in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka and of one of them having died were untrue.
- NGU Commander Oleksandr Pivnenko confirmed that National Guard servicemen who had gone absent without leave were in the house. Four of them needed medical assistance and were sent to hospital.
- Pivnenko also said that the private house was being used as a temporary accommodation site for National Guard servicemen. Mobilised personnel arrived there, underwent processing and checks, and were then sent to a training centre.
