From dangerous gas pipeline to underground metro: "Khartiia" engineers describe underground Operation "Veles". VIDEO
Engineers from the Khartiia Corps transformed a gas pipeline in Kupiansk into a logistics route for transporting troops, ammunition, and food, and evacuating the wounded during underground Operation Veles.
According to Censor.NET, military engineers with the call signs Lieshyi and Sem described how they prepared the underground system, dealt with the dangers posed by residual gas and low oxygen levels, and cleared damaged and soil-filled sections of the pipe.
While one of the entrances was being prepared, residual gas ignited, and the fire could not be extinguished for a week. Despite the dangerous conditions, no servicemen were injured.
Initially, troops moved through the pipe on foot or by crawling, carrying supplies manually. Later, the engineers developed special electric scooters that significantly sped up the underground transport of personnel and essential equipment.
The underground route is now used to deliver ammunition, food and water, and to evacuate wounded servicemen and the bodies of those killed. According to the engineers, the system helps save the lives of Ukrainian defenders who previously risked coming under Russian drone strikes while moving to their positions.
The servicemen discussed the creation of the underground logistics route, the difficulties of working inside the gas pipeline and their own technical inventions in a Khartiia Corps video.
