Russia has killed at least 309 Ukrainian writers

The "Unfinished" memorial project has updated its list of Ukrainian literary figures who died as a result of the Russian-Ukrainian war. As of early November 2026, the list includes 309 names—20 more than in February.

This was reported on the Facebook page of the "Nedopysani" project, according to Censor.NET.

The updated list includes poets, prose writers, translators, editors, journalists, and other members of the literary community whose lives were taken by Russian aggression.

Among the new names are poet and folklorist Bohdan Pidhorny, poet and editor Ilona Vovk, prose writer and screenwriter Maksym Shvartsman, poet, translator, and linguist Ihor Khodzhaniyazov, and prose writer and essayist Lyubomyr Medyk.

Among the other victims whose names were added to the list are are Oleksiy Hrytsenko, Roman Ignatenko, Oleksandr Hrudiy, Dmytro Deyneko, Artur Buryak, Vladyslav Loza, Stepan Stefurak, Oleksiy Degtyarev, Dmytro Puyu, Vadym Ostapenko, Alex Pineski, Valentin Yembryk, Hryhoriy Tkachyshyn, Volodymyr Chornyi, and Yaroslav Ivanov.

The project emphasizes that the work on the list is not limited to identifying the names of those who died. The team is also collecting their works, researching their biographies, and reconstructing information about their literary output.

"It is important to us that they be known for what they have written, translated, and researched," the project's authors noted.
