Initiative in war is shifting to Ukraine’s Armed Forces, NATO Military Committee Chair Dragone says

Ukrainian forces currently hold the initiative on the front line in Russia’s war against Ukraine. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are gradually liberating small areas of territory, while Russian troops lack the strategic initiative.
Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, Chair of the NATO Military Committee, said this in comments to Ukrinform on the sidelines of the Berlin Security Conference on November 4, Censor.NET reports.
Dragone assesses the situation on the front line
According to the admiral, the situation on the ground is gradually changing in Ukraine’s favour.
"According to our information, Ukraine holds the initiative. It is gaining small areas of territory, but this is a Ukrainian initiative, not a Russian one," Dragone said.
He also stressed the need to move towards negotiations and end hostilities. In his view, Ukraine is ready to take this step, but Russia still needs to be persuaded to come to the negotiating table.
NATO identifies Ukraine’s priority needs
The NATO Military Committee chair also highlighted Ukraine’s military needs.
These are primarily air defence assets and interceptors. According to Dragone, NATO and its partner countries are working to provide Ukraine with the weapons it needs before winter.
Earlier, it was reported that NATO is reviewing its defence strategy in the event of a Russian attack. The Alliance’s military command is considering precision strikes on targets deep inside Russia to deprive Moscow of the ability to continue hostilities.
