According to open sources, Rustam Abdrafikov held the position of head of Department 8 of Directorate "K" of the FSB of the Russian Federation until the summer of 2026; this directorate in Russia deals with organized crime group leaders.

Russian media reported that it was precisely during Abdrafikov’s tenure that "only those ‘thieves-in-law’ who were completely loyal to and indispensable for the FSB were allowed to remain at large in Russia."
