On November 5, US First Lady Melania Trump met at the White House with representatives of Russia and Ukraine to discuss the humanitarian mission in temporarily occupied Oleshky in the Kherson region. She hopes this mission will mark the "beginning" of a process toward a ceasefire in the war.

Melania Trump said this in an address at the White House, Censor.NET reports.

The delegations

Ukraine is represented at the meeting by Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets and Servant of the People faction leader Davyd Arakhamiia. Russia's human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova and Putin's special envoy Kirill Dmitriev attended on behalf of Russia.

Melania's address on the humanitarian mission

Melania Trump said Russia and Ukraine had signed an agreement "in two languages" on October 23. She did not disclose its details, but the agreement concerns the humanitarian mission in temporarily occupied Oleshky.

"Russia and Ukraine chose me as a mediator for a ceasefire in Oleshky and the Kherson region. Our shared goal is to provide humanitarian aid to the residents of Oleshky and help civilians evacuate," Trump said.

The US first lady said that "the ceasefire in Oleshky would have been impossible without President Putin and President Zelenskyy."

"Their cooperation sets an important precedent for advancing peace throughout the region," Melania Trump added.

She said she began working on the humanitarian mission in September 2026 and used communication channels with Russian and Ukrainian representatives established for the return of Ukrainian children illegally taken to Russia to organize the humanitarian mission to Oleshky.

Melania Trump said she had participated in every stage of organizing the humanitarian mission to Oleshky. According to her, around 800 people were rescued from Oleshky.

"We supported both nations so they could achieve a ceasefire in Oleshky. We worked at every stage with the Russian and Ukrainian teams through to the very end. I congratulate both sides on their efforts to carry out this ceasefire operation," she said.

"Freedom exists only where there is no fear. A free world is one where people live with dignity. For a short time, the residents of Oleshky gained relief from the horrors of war. For them, freedom is personal," Melania Trump said.

Remarks by Ukrainian representatives

Arakhamiia, who is representing Ukraine at the meeting with Melania Trump at the White House, spoke during the US first lady's address.

"In the Kherson region and Oleshky, people were able to go outside. They visited their damaged homes and were able to collect their belongings. We saw how the mechanics of a ceasefire work and how we can ensure...," he said.

Melania Trump also said she had written "personal letters" to Putin and Zelenskyy and handed them to senior officials from both countries for delivery.

A "gift" from Russia

Russian representative Dmitriev, in turn, gave Melania Trump a drawing from "11-year-old Lidiia from Oleshky," who had allegedly moved to Russia. The girl had written on it: "I LOVE MELANIA."
