Russia intensifies airstrikes on Sloviansk following failed assaults

On the Sloviansk front, there has been an increase in Russian army casualties during infantry assaults. At the same time, the occupiers are stepping up their use of aircraft and drones to strike Sloviansk and other settlements in the metropolitan area.

According to Censor.NET, citing "Suspilne," this was reported during the telethon by  Serhiy Lugovyk, an officer in the planning group of the anti-aircraft missile division of the 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Hetman Ivan Mazepa.

According to him, Russian troops are actively using airstrikes in an attempt to compensate for their failed ground assaults and influence the situation on the battlefield.

"The enemy is actively carrying out airstrikes on the Slovyansk metropolitan area, thereby attempting to influence the situation on the battlefield in some way and make up for their failed ground assaults. They are also trying to affect the civilian population by destroying critical civilian infrastructure," the soldier said.

Lugovik noted that the Russian occupiers are effectively trying to destroy Sloviansk, having failed to make any headway on the ground.

What kinds of drones and aerial bombs does the Russian military use?

For their attacks on the Sloviansk metropolitan area, Russian forces are using, among other things, "Molniya" and "Lancet" drones. According to the officer, these drones are relatively inexpensive.

In addition, Russian aircraft are carrying out strikes with guided bombs. These are launched from a distance of at least 20 kilometers from the front line, as Russian aircraft are wary of Ukrainian air defenses.

Russian infantry casualties have risen by 30%

An increase in Russian military casualties has also been observed in the unit’s area of responsibility. At the same time, the number of assaults along this section of the front has decreased slightly.

According to Luhovik, when comparing September and October in the area of responsibility of the 11th Army Corps, the number of Russian assaults decreased, but enemy casualties increased by approximately 30%.

"We already understand that after intensive aerial bombardment, the enemy will attempt more aggressive assaults. In this regard, we are keeping our enemy in check along our section of the front. The enemy, of course, is attempting isolated assaults, but if we compare September and October on our section of the 11th Corps’ front, the number of enemy assaults has decreased slightly. At the same time, enemy casualties have increased significantly, by about 30%," the officer noted.

He added that the Ukrainian military is monitoring the enemy's movements and preparing for a possible intensification of attacks, particularly large-scale mechanized assaults.
