Odesa governor Mikheil Saakashvili has decided to resign and start a new phase of struggle against Ukraine's rampant corruption.
Censor.NET reports.Following his statement, people unleashed a storm of comments on social media. Many regard Saakashvili's words as a call to action, sincerely pitying the governor's move. Others openly rejoice at his quitting.
"Saakashvili's decision to resign from the post of head of the Odesa Regional State Administration (the post of governor) is a bad news and a very serious blow to the Ukrainian political system. Despite all the problematic aspects of his stay in the office," Moscow-based political expert Andrew Okara wrote.
"With irony though without any malicious joy, let me note that in Ukraine Saakashvili has joined a cohort of politicians whose resignations just leave you with memories of inappropriate scandals provoked by themselves and unfulfilled promises," Bohdan Yaremenko, a diplomat and the leader of Maidan of Foreign Affairs NGO, remarked.
