Russian social media Odnoklassniki and VKontakte to be banned in Ukraine

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has enacted the decision by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) on implementing sanctions against social media websites VKontakte and Odnoklasniki. The presidential decree has been published on the head of state's website.

As reported by Censor.NET, the bill stipulates for blocking by Internet providers of social media websites VKontakte and Odnoklasniki and mail services Yandex and Mail.ru.

"Internet providers are banned from offering their consumers access to services by "Mail.ru" (www.mail.ru) and socially oriented media VKontakte (www.vk.com) and Odnoklassniki (www.ok.ru)," the report reads.

The document, signed by the president, also includes services by Yandex that have to be banned: Yandex.Money, Yandex.News, Yandex.Photos, and its e-mail service.

The services are to be blocked within the restrictive measures against Russian entities under the Law of Ukraine "On sanctions."
