Ukraine's SBU says Russian secret services involved in Petya.A attack

The most recent cyberattack upon Ukrainian state agencies and companies with Petya.A malware was aimed at destabilization of current situation in Ukraine.
As reported by Censor.NET, this was announced by Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) press center."SBU believes that the attack had been planned in advance. It occurred in several stages and started on the eve of the national holiday [Constitution Day on June 28 - ed.]. Although this attack was disguised as ransomeware, in fact this virus just covers a large scale attack upon Ukraine," the agency said.
SBU says the type of the attack, through the use of accounting software, is rare, and in the past several years has only been used by North Korea once.
The main goal of the attack, SBU says, was to destroy important data and hinder operations of state and private organizations of Ukraine for the purpose of spreading panic among Ukrainians.
The security agency added that based on the data they received about the attack, it involved the same hacker groups as in December 2016, when finance, transportation, and energy sectors were affected with TeleBots and Blackenergy.
"This is an evidence that the Russian secret services have been involved," the report reads.
On June 27-29, numerous Ukrainian companies, government agencies, and banks were attacked by a large-scale computer virus Petya.A.
