Saakashvili's citizenship revoked over false filing of personal data, - Presidential Administration

Revoking of the Ukrainian citizenship from former president of Georgia, former Odesa governor Mikheil Saakashvili is due to false information provided by him when filing for citizenship, Presidential Administration said.

"Upon a motion filed by the State Migration Service, which provided convincing facts about submitting inaccurate information when filing the application, the Citizenship Commission under the president of Ukraine decided to support the motion for stripping Mikheil Saakashvili of Ukrainian citizenship, and recommended the president make an appropriate decision," the press service told Interfax-Ukraine.

Based on these recommendations, the president signed an appropriate decree, the Administration said.

"In accordance with the legislation on the protection of personal data, this normative act is not subject to publication, since it contains confidential information," the presidential administration said.

On July 26, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on Wednesday signed the decree that deprives former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, leader of Rulh Novykh Syl party, of his Ukrainian citizenship.
