255 Ukrainian military were killed in Ilovaisk withdrawal in 2014

The B sector of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) forces lost 368 people killed and MIA during the entire Ilovaisk operation in August 2014.

"This morning, three years ago, on Aug. 29, 2014, the convoys of the surrounded Ukrainian army started their withdrawal from Ilovaisk through the "green corridor," when the withdrawal turned a bloody skirmish.

"On that day, 255 Ukrainian fighters were killed or died of wounds. Bodies of 17 more people have not been found. Some of them are considered captives. No information about these missing people have been available for three years now...

"These have been the gravest losses in one day during the Ukraine Independence War," he wrote.

Butusov added that the B sector ATO forces lost 368 people killed and MIA between Aug. 10 and 30, 2014.

"This data was provided by historians of the National military and history museum who have done a great job comparing all information on killed and missing in action, data from volunteers, search organizations, and the military prosecutor and law enforcement agencies.

"Eternal glory to the killed Heroes.

"You are in the same convoy now. And we are in the same convoy of respect to your memory, your deed, and self-sacrifice for the sake of Ukraine, for the sake of our future, for the sake of each of us.... We are alive thanks to you. We will be taking these steps many-many times, and bring our kids, and tell them stories, and lay flowers...," Butusov summed up.

In late August 2014, Ukrainian forces were entrapped in Ilovaisk area, the Donetsk region. Russian armed forces and terrorist gangs opened fire upon the corridor that was created for the withdrawal of the Ukrainian troops.
