Valentyna Simonenko, a Supreme Court judge who submitted her resignation in March 2023, has a Russian passport.
This is reported by Censor.NET with reference to "Skhemy".
According to an extract from Rospasport, which is available to Skhemy, the judge, when she still had the surname Smirnova, became a Russian citizen on April 10, 2003.
The reason for acquiring Russian citizenship is Article 18 of paragraph "a" of the Federal Law "On Citizenship of the Russian Federation", which states that it can be obtained by a person whose spouse or relative, or parents have Russian citizenship.
At the time of obtaining Russian citizenship, Simonenko was already working as a judge in the Sevastopol Court of Appeal in Crimea.
As of now, Simonenko's passport is listed as "invalid due to the expiration of its validity."
According to the extract, the passport of a Russian citizen in the name of Valentyna Smirnova was issued by the Internal Affairs Authorities in Veshenskaya rural locality, located in the Rostov region. The leakage databases of residents of the Russian Federation indicate that Simonenko was registered in this region as of 2015 and 2017.
This may indicate that Valentyna Simonenko did not renounce her citizenship of the Russian Federation, as in accordance with the decree of the President of Russia as of November 14, 2002, it is necessary to submit a document on removal from the registration at the place of residence. The judge probably did not do according to a leak from Russian databases.
In March this year, the judge submitted her resignation. Earlier, the Slidstvo.Info agency reported that despite her trip to occupied Crimea and her ties to the local occupation authorities, Simonenko will receive a lifetime allowance, as she has the relevant experience as a judge.
At the request of "Skhemy", Kateryna Butko, head of the all-Ukrainian association Avtomaidan, calculated that, given the judge's salary in recent years, the amount of Simonenko's lifetime allowance could amount to about 200,000 hryvnias per month.
