The former serviceman, a resident of the Kherson region, collected information about military and strategic facilities in the Cherkasy region for the enemy. He was sentenced to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Censor.NET reports.
The 25-year-old man is a former Ukrainian soldier. When the enemy seized the territories of the region, he decided to join the service of a unit of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces. He "leaked" to its representatives all the known information about the location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Later, the Russian military intelligence agent received a new task - to conduct reconnaissance and subversive activities in favour of the aggressor," the statement said.
In May 2023, the convict arrived from the temporarily occupied areas of the state through the Russian Federation to the territory controlled by Ukraine. For the sake of secrecy, he followed a pre-agreed route under the guise of an internally displaced person.
To fulfil the task of his curators, the convict had to obtain data on the location and functioning of critical infrastructure facilities, defence industry enterprises and other points important to the enemy. In the same month, the agent of the aggressor state was detained while filming the facilities in Cherkasy.
The man was found guilty of high treason and sentenced to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
