A 38-year-old former midfielder of the Ukrainian youth football team, Serhiy Rozhok, died defending Ukraine from Russian invaders.
This was reported by the Bucha District Football Association, Censor.NET reports.
"Today, while defending Ukraine, a great football master, a man with a capital M, Serhiy Rozhok, died... there are no words for pain... we are losing the best..." - the message reads.
The press service of FC Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih also reported the death of the footballer.
"Serhiy spent the 2010/11 season in Kryvyi Rih. During this time, he played 21 matches and was one of the main players in Yuriy Maksymov's team. After the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by ruscists, he joined the Armed Forces. He died on 24 January 2024, defending our homeland," the FC said.
Rozhok started his career at the academy of Dynamo Kyiv. He later played for a number of Ukrainian clubs, including "Tavria", "Zakarpattia", "Obolon", "CSKA", "Kharkiv", Desna", "Kryvbas", "Chornomorets" and "Zirka".
Since the beginning of 2001, Rozhok has been involved in the games of Dynamo's third team, and a year later he made his debut in the club's second team.
He also spent a significant part of his career in Belarus. He won the "Belarusian Cup" with Minsk and made his debut in European competitions.
