On the eve of International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi concentration camp, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy paid tribute to the victims of the Holocaust.
The head of state announced this in Telegram, Censor.NET reports.
"It was a deliberate attempt by the Nazis to wipe out an entire nation - to kill all its people, to destroy everything that reminded them of Jews. Six million victims.
The crime of the Holocaust should never happen again, but unfortunately, the memory of the Holocaust is gradually becoming weaker. And the evil that tries to destroy the lives of entire peoples still remains in the world," the statement said.
The President called for the prevention of forgetfulness.
"We must all fight for life and not forget that indifference is fertiliser for evil. We must overcome the hatred that gives rise to abuse and murder. We must not allow forgetfulness. And this is everyone's mission - to do everything to prevent evil from winning," he added.
