A serviceman who committed a fatal road accident in Hostomel, Kyiv region, in July 2024 was sentenced to 5 years in prison.

The soldier was driving the car while intoxicated. There were two passengers in the car with him: A 24-year-old serviceman and a 21-year-old girl.
"Driving through Hostomel in the afternoon, he has lost control, causing the car to leave the carriageway, crash into a fence and overturn. As a result of the accident, the military passenger died on the spot, and the female passenger sustained serious injuries.
The driver's blood alcohol content was found to be 1.04 ppm. It was also established that he did not have a category B driver's licence," the statement said.
The serviceman was found guilty of violating the rules of road safety while under the influence of alcohol, which caused the death of the victim and serious bodily injuries to the victim (Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The court sentenced him to 5 years' imprisonment.
