A Russian agent who was preparing a series of terrorist attacks, including bombings near local administrative buildings of the Ukrainian military and law enforcement agencies, was detained in Poltava region.
This was reported by the press service of the SSU, Censor.NET informs.
Thus, the woman received an order from the Russian Federation to carry out explosions near the district police station and the city TCR during rush hour.
"The attacker was supposed to plant an improvised explosive device (IED) near the state institution. At the moment of mining the territory of the administrative building, the occupiers planned to detonate the explosives together with their agent. The SSU officers exposed the hostile intentions in advance and detained the terrorist," the statement said.
The enemy agent turned out to be a 30-year-old unemployed woman from Poltava region who was looking for "easy money" in an online casino, where she was recruited by a Russian special agent.
"In order to prepare for the crime, the agent received money from her supervisor to rent a safe house and purchase components for the manufacture of explosives. Then she received instructions from Russia on how to make an IED, which she hid in a kettle and "reinforced" with additional damaging elements and equipped with an electronic device with remote access for the occupiers," the SSU said.
During the searches, components for explosives and a mobile gadget with evidence of her contacts with a Russian curator were seized from her.
The woman was served a notice of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- p. 1 Art. 14, p. 2 Art. 258 (preparation to commit a terrorist act);
- p. 2 Art. 28, p. 1 Art. 263 (illegal handling of explosives).
The offender is in custody. She faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
