They got lost in mountains while trying to escape abroad: two men rescued in Zakarpattia region – SBGS. VIDEO+PHOTOS
In Zakarpattia, border guards of the Bogdan department of the Mukachevo Detachment together with rescuers of the State Emergency Service rescued two men who got lost in the mountains while trying to illegally cross the border with Romania.
This was reported by the State Border Guard Service, Censor.NET reports.
As noted, a 28-year-old resident of Shepetivka and a 30-year-old resident of Novoselivka tried to bypass the control points and headed for the mountains from the village of Vorokhta. Their "route" lasted eight days, but due to a snowstorm, the men lost their way and asked for help.
A drone was quickly deployed to search for them. Thanks to the drone, the tent with the lost people was found 15 km from the state border. They were taken to hospital with first-degree frostbite.
The rescue operation lasted until 4:30 am and took place in extremely difficult conditions - deep snow, low temperatures, strong winds and poor visibility.
Border guards warn that the current weather conditions in the mountains are deadly, and attempts to illegally cross the border in such conditions are not only a criminal offence, but also a direct threat to life.
