Man exposed for organizing illegal border crossings to Moldova for $3,000. PHOTOS
Operatives of the Internal and Personal Security Department of the Izmail Detachment exposed and detained the organizer of illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine.
A 66-year-old man from Izmail district offered two acquaintances of draft age assistance in illegally crossing the state border into Moldova outside official checkpoints, Censor.NET reported.
Border guards thwart illegal border crossing attempt
The offender charged $3,000 for his "services," arranging transportation for his "clients" to the border area and providing instructions for the further on-foot route into the neighboring country.
Law enforcement officers detained the man together with his two companions near the state border, preventing an illegal crossing attempt.
During a search, investigators seized the suspect’s mobile phone containing evidence of his involvement in the scheme, as well as cash obtained through criminal means.
The organizer has been formally charged. The article provides for up to nine years’ imprisonment with asset confiscation and disqualification from holding certain positions. The pretrial investigation is ongoing.
