In Vinnytsia region, deputy "bought" girl with disability to get deferment from mobilisation. VIDEO+PHOTOS

A deputy of one of the city councils in Vinnytsia region, together with an accomplice, developed a scheme that would allow him to avoid mobilisation.

At the end of 2024, the official had learned about two sisters, one of whom was an 18-year-old girl with a Group II disability who, due to her illness, was unaware of the significance of her actions, according to Censor.NET.

Taking advantage of their difficult financial situation, the man offered the older sister to "buy out" her younger sister for 3,000 hryvnias a month. The woman agreed and subsequently spent part of the money she received to pay off loans.

After registering the marriage, the man used his wife's health documents and marriage certificate as grounds  to issue a deferment from mobilisation.

The suspect faces imprisonment for his actions

On 6 November 2025, the deputy and his accomplice were detained.

Under the procedural guidance of the Vinnytsia Regional Prosecutor's Office, they were notified of their suspicion of human trafficking and draft evasion during mobilisation. The 18-year-old victim is currently safe.

The suspects face 5 to 12 years in prison for their actions.
