The court sentenced a Kyiv resident to eight years in prison for robbing a former soldier who lost a limb on the front line.

This was reported by the National Police in Kyiv, according to Censor.NET.

The perpetrator snatched money from the veteran

The victim was a 28-year-old former soldier who lost a limb in combat on the front line and was undergoing rehabilitation in Kyiv. A stranger approached him near a shop and struck up a conversation.

When the man took out his wallet to count his money before making a purchase, the attacker snatched 5,000 hryvnias from it and ran away.

Arrest, suspicion and trial

The detained attacker turned out to be a 32-year-old Kyiv resident who had been repeatedly brought to criminal responsibility for property crimes.

  • He was charged under Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — robbery committed under martial law. By court order, the suspect was remanded in custody for the duration of the investigation.
  • Taking into account the evidence gathered by the investigation and the previous unserved sentence for fraud, the Kyiv City Court sentenced the defendant to a final punishment of eight years' imprisonment.
