The Security Service's counterintelligence unit has detained another Russian agent in the Kyiv region. The perpetrator was hiding in the capital region after directing enemy fire in the Donetsk region.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the SSU press centre.
Details of the investigation
According to the case file, the detainee was a 32-year-old miner from the temporarily occupied Novogrodivka, recruited by Russian special services.
Even before the occupation of the community, the Russians recruited him into their intelligence network through the banned social network Odnoklassniki. There, he was approached by a "liaison" from the Russian military intelligence and offered cooperation in exchange for a virtual intimate relationship.
Having agreed to the "offer," the suspect began to track and transmit the locations of the Defence Forces in the city and its surroundings to the occupiers.
The Russians used the intelligence data obtained to plan air strikes on the community with the aim of advancing in the Pokrovsk direction.
Exposure
After the capture of Novogrodivka, the agent left for the capital region, where he hoped to "lay low" in order to later continue his intelligence and subversive activities in the interests of the Russian Federation.
SBU officers established the location of the perpetrator and detained him in a rented house. During searches, a smartphone with evidence of his cooperation with the occupiers was seized.
Investigators from the Security Service have informed the agent that he is suspected of treason committed under martial law.
The perpetrator is in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
