By the fourth anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, journalists have identified the names of 200,186 Russian military personnel who were killed in the war.
Such data was published by Mediazona in cooperation with the BBC Russian Service and volunteers, Censor.NET reports.
Highest casualties per capita: Tyva, Buryatia, Altai, Zabaykallya
According to their data, 122.7 thousand of the deceased invaders were from cities, and another 57.2 thousand were from villages. At the same time, large cities and "million-plus" cities have been "hardly touched by the war": two-thirds of the deceased lived in cities and villages with a population of less than 100,000.
In terms of the absolute number of fatalities, Bashkortostan (7.7 thousand), Tatarstan (6.8 thousand), and Sverdlovsk Oblast (6.3 thousand) lead the list.
According to the data obtained, residents of cities and villages where good jobs are scarce most often sign contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense, while propaganda from local authorities can be more aggressive than in large cities.

"In the distribution of fatalities by region, a pattern is most often visible: the higher the poverty level, the higher, as a rule, the casualty rate," the article states.
A demographer, commenting anonymously on the data obtained by journalists, stated that the list of regions with a high share of losses largely coincides with the list of regions with low life expectancy.
"In other words, residents of territories where the probability of dying a non-natural death is already high are more willing to go to war. According to the expert's assessment, people currently signing contracts may be motivated not so much by poverty as by a lack of prospects and a sense that they have nothing to lose anyway," the publication notes.
