Four people who tried to smuggle draft-age men across the border were exposed by officers of the Mukachevo border detachment’s main operational search unit, in cooperation with the National Police, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), and prosecutors.
As a result of the measures taken, three channels for the illegal transfer of persons across the Ukrainian-Hungarian and Ukrainian-Romanian sections of the state border were exposed and shut down, Censor.NET reports.
What is known?
Two residents of Zakarpattia were detained in the city of Mukachevo. The traffickers promised their client assistance in crossing the border from Ukraine into Hungary outside official checkpoints, setting the price of the "service" at $11,000.
Law enforcement officers also uncovered another attempt to transfer a draft-age man to Hungary. They detained a woman from Ivano-Frankivsk region who, for $10,000, was transporting one client to Zakarpattia. According to the organisers’ plan, the violator was supposed to cross the border in the area of responsibility of the Vylok border service department.
In addition, border guards together with police officers shut down a channel used to transfer draft-age men from Ukraine to Romania.
In particular, on the outskirts of the village of Velykyi Bychkiv, law enforcement officers stopped a car in which a resident of Zakarpattia was taking one client to the border. The Zakarpattia resident priced his services at $9,000.
All those involved in the smuggling of persons have been detained. Investigative actions in the cases are currently ongoing.
If found guilty, the members of the criminal groups face imprisonment for a term of seven to nine years.
