The Security Service and the National Police have detained a further six Russian agents who were responsible for arson attacks in various regions of Ukraine.
This was reported by the SSU press service, according to Censor.NET.
Details
The perpetrators turned out to be local residents aged between 17 and 23, who had been recruited by the enemy via dating sites or whilst searching for "easy money" on Telegram channels.
In Kropyvnytskyi, an FSB agent was apprehended "red-handed" after setting fire to the district council building and a local branch of a state-owned bank.
It has been established that Russian special services remotely recruited the suspect in exchange for the promise of a romantic relationship with a fictitious online acquaintance. As a "decoy", the FSB used a fake account purporting to be that of an ordinary girl.
Four more arsonists have been detained in Kyiv, who attempted to destroy several official vehicles using a flammable mixture.
According to the case file, the suspects worked in pairs and carried out tasks assigned by various handlers from the Russian Federation.
For instance, two brothers in Kyiv set fire to vehicles belonging to a mobile firefighting unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and an employee of the State Emergency Service.
The other two perpetrators carried out hostile tasks in the Desnianskyi district of the capital, where they set fire to a military vehicle during the night.
In Zaporizhzhia, a player from the local handball team was charged with setting fire to several Defence Forces service pick-ups on the orders of the FSB.
According to the case file, the suspect committed the crimes at a local service station where military off-road vehicles were being repaired after carrying out combat missions on the southern front.
Currently, SBU investigators have informed the detainees of the charges against them under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- obstruction of the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations during a state of emergency, committed by a group of persons acting in concert;
- intentional destruction or damage to property.
