Police have uncovered an organised criminal gang of fraudsters in the Dnipropetrovsk region who were embezzling citizens’ funds by reissuing SIM cards.
The victims include residents of various regions of Ukraine, including Kyiv, Poltava, Cherkasy, Chernihiv and Volyn,reports Censor.NET.

The criminals operated using the so-called ‘SIM-swap’ fraud scheme: they posed as employees of a mobile operator and, under the guise of technical procedures, initiated the reissuing of SIM cards linked to the victims’ bank accounts.
The total amount of established losses is approximately 1 million hryvnias. In some cases, the criminals not only stole funds but also attempted to carry out additional illegal transactions using the victims’ accounts.
The criminal activity was uncovered by investigators from the Main Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine, in collaboration with operatives from the Strategic Investigations Department in the Ternopil region.
It has been established that the organised group operated according to a pre-planned scheme and had a clear hierarchical structure.
