Nine men who fought against Ukraine on the side of the Russian Federation have been given prison sentences.
This was reported by Censor.NET, citing the press centre of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
What did the court decide?
Following a public prosecution by the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the court found them guilty of high treason and collaboration (Parts 1 and 2 of Article 111, and Part 7 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sentence is 15 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Prosecutors proved that between 2016 and 2025, seven residents of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and two natives of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea joined illegal armed groups and signed contracts with the Russian Armed Forces. Ideological motives and a desire to profit from the killings of their compatriots prompted them to join the ‘motorised rifle brigades’, ‘infantry regiment’, ‘mortar battery communications unit’, ‘coastal defence’ and ‘marine’ units of the occupying forces. In particular, one Crimean man went to war as a sailor to pay off a loan.
Details
The traitors served the enemy in the roles of "rifleman", "radio operator", "mechanic-driver", "grenadier assistant", "senior gunner" and "sniper". The men carried out orders from the command in the Kherson and Luhansk regions, taking part in assault operations in the areas of Mariinka, Toretsk, Avdiivka, and on other sections of the front in the Bakhmut, Volnovakha, Kramatorsk, and Pokrovsk districts.
Two were "deputy commanders" of a "squad" and a "platoon". The convicts’ duties included providing radio communications for units, erecting fortifications and manning checkpoints. They also delivered provisions and ammunition and repaired military equipment. One was entrusted by Russian military personnel with guarding the railway line and setting up firing positions around the Olenivska colony. These actions were carried out with the aim of preventing the Ukrainian Defence Forces from liberating the Ukrainian prisoners of war who were being held there at the time.
The aggressor state paid the militants a monthly allowance of between 170,000 and 220,000 roubles. They were detained during an attack on the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation was conducted by the Main Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
