An associate professor at one of Volyn’s universities is suspected of demanding $3,000 in exchange for helping two men subject to military conscription gain admission to a full-time degree programme. The lecturer was arrested whilst receiving the money.
This was reported by the Volyn Regional Prosecutor’s Office, according to Censor.NET.
He promised to influence college officials
According to the investigation, the lecturer claimed he could help the two men enrol at the Technical Vocational College of Lutsk National Technical University.
For $3,000, he allegedly promised to influence college officials so that the men, who were liable for military service, would be enrolled in full-time study without hindrance.
"The associate professor was detained at the moment of receiving an unlawful benefit," the prosecutor’s office reported.
The associate professor is currently under house arrest
The lecturer has been notified of the suspicion of abuse of influence under Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The court imposed house arrest as a pre-trial measure.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
