Law enforcement officers exposed two Rivne residents who, according to investigators, promised to have men liable for military service removed from the wanted list and secure them a deferment from mobilisation for $6,000. One of the suspects formerly headed a Territorial Centre of Recruitment and Social Support (TCR and SS).

The Rivne regional police reported this, according to Censor.NET.

Promised to influence TCR and SS officials.

According to law enforcement officers, a 59-year-old man acted in collusion with his 60-year-old acquaintance, the former head of one of the TCR and SS

They allegedly promised two men of conscription age that, in exchange for money, they would influence officials at the regional TCR and SS to have them removed from the wanted list. The suspects also assured them that they would not subsequently be called up for military service.

The men demanded a total of $6,000 for their "services." According to the investigation, they had received the first $3,000 earlier.

Detained during handover of money

Law enforcement officers detained the suspects while they were receiving the second part of the agreed sum.

Both were served notices of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – receiving an undue advantage in exchange for influencing a decision by an official, accompanied by extortion and committed by a group acting in prior conspiracy.

The court placed the suspects under nighttime house arrest as a measure of restraint. They face between three and eight years in prison.

Law enforcement officers are currently identifying other individuals who may have been involved in the scheme.
