Former MP arrested for selling fake disability certificates for $10,000 – SSU. PHOTOS
The Security Service, in conjunction with the National Police, has detained a former Member of the Ukrainian Parliament who organised a scheme to evade mobilisation.
This was reported by Censor.NET, citing the SSU press centre.
How did the scheme work?
It is reported that, for 10,000 US dollars, he offered conscripts the chance to obtain a fake disability certificate to avoid conscription.
As the investigation revealed, to carry out the scheme, the former MP promised to use his personal connections in medical institutions in the Mykolaiv region.
According to the case file, the suspects initially admitted clients to ‘inpatient care’ under the pretence of treating cardiological and neurological conditions.
After being ‘discharged’ from the medical facilities, the fraudsters were handed commission reports confirming a Group 3 disability status.
Arrest and charges
- SSU officers documented the crimes of the scheme’s organiser and detained him along with an intermediary after receiving the second instalment of payment for preparing a full set of fictitious disability documents.
- The detainees have now been notified of charges under Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of influence committed by a group of persons acting in collusion).
- The investigation is ongoing to bring all those involved in the scheme to justice. The perpetrators face up to 8 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property.
