Members of the Economic Crime Department of the National Police and Prosecutor General's Office detained an assistant to a member of Oleh Liashko’s Radical Party parliamentary faction at receiving a bribe in Kyiv today.

Spokesperson for Economic Crime Department Natalia Kalynovska told Censor.NET.

Detained Oleksii Bevziuk is the assistant to Radical Party parliamentary faction Member Oleksii Kyrychenko.

Bevziuk was extorting 5,000 hryvnia (about $180) monthly from another person for providing protection on the person's illegal gambling activities in the territory of Desnianskyi district of Kyiv.

The MP's assistant received the total of 15,000 hryvnia for protection of illicit gambling venues in November, December and January.

He was apprehended when accepting the money at Stepana Bandery Avenue in Kyiv.
