Colonel-General Vorobiov buried in Kyiv. PHOTOS
Chief of Ivan Cherniakhovskyi National Defense University of Ukraine, Colonel-General Henadii Vorobiov was buried today in Ukraine's capital.
Censor.NET's correspondent reports.Former First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine, Colonel-General Hennadii Vorobiov, call sign 'Vilnyi,' died a sudden death in his university office on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017.
Hennadii Vorobiov served as commander of Ukraine's Land Forces during 2009-2014 and was one of the most experienced and professional generals within the Ukrainian army. He refused to execute a criminal order of Viktor Yanukovych to use army against the activists of Maidan in 2014. After the war against Ukraine broke out in the east, First Deputy Chief of the General Staff Vorobiov was engaged in the development of many military operations, including those around Debaltseve. Overall, he spent more than two years on the front line in the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) zone. Vorobiov quit the General Staff on May 21, 2016 to head Ivan Cherniakhovskyi National Defense University of Ukraine.
Today, President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree on awarding Colonel-General Hennadii Vorobiov an Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi 1st Class posthumously.
Last respects to General Vorobiov were paid in the main building of Ivan Cherniakhovskyi National Defense University of Ukraine. The memorial service took place in Volodymyrskyi cathedral. General Vorobiov was buried at Baikove cemetery in Kyiv.
