'Hell Week'– Chinese police and military undergo physical endurance test. PHOTOS
The final stage of combat training in Chinese People's Armed Police and People's Liberation Army is called the Hell Week. It is meant to test physical endurance of the participants.
Censor.NET Chief Editor Yurii Butusov wrote on Facebook."I've put together a collection of photographs of the 'Hell Week' - the final stage of combat training undergone by the members of Chinese People's Liberation Army and People's Armed Police (it includes military units similar in its functions to Ukraine's National Guard)," he said.
"The Chinese propaganda massively films all types of combat training of various military units and makes it publicly available. The military service is advertised as endurance test for men and women, the opportunity to challenge oneself under extreme conditions. The scale of photo and video material is really terrific: the cameramen scrupulously record all the hardest moments while the filming seems to be an integral part of combat training and is meant for the promotion of military service among civil society members.
"The dangers and hardships of the 'Hell Week' are scrupulously displayed. It's all for real here, and the cameramen intentionally capture scratches, abrasions, bruises, the way the soldiers sleep and eat. No staged photography: you will be squeezed for 101 percent here; you must reveal all your will and character to survive here and not to let your team down. That's how the team spirit is generated: you are motivated to do your very best to be able not just cope with your task but with your companion's one as well. Because if you fail, someone else will carry your weapon, hold a log, stretcher, box with cartridges.
"You have got hurt enough to start screaming or crying? You are bleeding, losing consciousness due to the lack of sleep? Perfect! It means that you will be captured in close-up as the army needs your pain and suffering to motivate others to dare and test the limits of your spirit. There is nothing too special, but the large-scale involvement and motivation cannot but impress.
"The training also involves martial but not on a large scale. It is all about endurance, forced foot marches, teamwork, rescue of the wounded, carrying of ammunition. These soldiers will be accustomed to strong physical effort in a real war. They will be able to cope with heavy stress. Anyway, I just liked these photos, selected favorites from different units and detachments. As for me, it is the perfect example of the consistent and routine work of military propaganda and communication with the public," Butusov said.
