Conflict surrounding Ministry of Defense is multi-level
Yermak saved Reznikova in the minister’s chair in the battle with Arachamie, nobody is going to bear any responsibility for the unresolved problems of the Ministry of Defense.
After a loud corruption scandal in the Ministry of Defense, the "Servant of the People" faction announced that it would consider the issue of the minister's resignation, then the "servants" prepared a draft law on the possibility of appointing a military serviceman as a minister and the successor was called the head of the GUR MO Budanov. But suddenly everything stopped, and the Minister of Defense announced that President Zelensky had decided to leave him in office.
The conflict around the MO contains several levels.
First of all, in a democratic country, the issue of Resnitsky's resignation should still be considered in parliament. There is a criminal case against his deputy Shapovalov, there is a statement of Colonel Yelkin, to which Resnitsky to his shame did not respond at all. All this should be a parliamentary reaction, but criticism of Resnitsky was hidden.
Secondly, Reznikov is focused on diplomatic issues. Meanwhile, in the main area of the Ministry's activity there are many unresolved problems, including: supply of ammunition, transport, communication, engineering equipment, repair, logistics, provision, cash bonuses, mobilization system, military justice, defense planning. I hoped that the scandal would force the government to consider the state of affairs in the Ministry of Defense in order to start solving problems. But it all came down to who would sit in the prestigious chair.
Thirdly, Reznikov is not a popular figure in the army. And in the ruling party there is a strong desire to have its own controlled military figure who, thanks to a high position, could become popular. Because there is no one close to the authority of Zaluzhny in the army. And many in the Office are very nervous about this.
Fourthly, Budanov's supporters are Arakhimia, the head of the "Servant of the People" faction, and Alexander Gogilashvili, the assistant to the President, who is Budanov's adviser. Since Zelensky always makes decisions based on emotions, the corruption scandal created a favorable opportunity to get Zelensky's approval to change the minister, with the motivation that finally a more popular Budanov would be appointed. Budanov is part of the inner circle, has permanent access, so the President sympathizes with him and it was not difficult to get his approval. Having received approval, Arakhimia gathered the faction on Sunday to immediately inform the deputies of the President's decision. Since Reznikov controls his partner - the head of the President's Office Yermak, Arakhimia understood that Yermak would use all his influence on Zelensky to force the President to change his mind. And so it happened. Yermak repelled the attack on Reznikov.
Unfortunately, these intrigues have nothing to do with the real problems of the Ministry of Defense, which are not being solved.
Only under the threat of dismissal, Reznikov began to take an interest in drone issues and the implementation of the Delta system. Pressure on Reznikov is the only effective way to make him work. I don't think that Budanov would be an adequate replacement for Reznikov, but volunteers who understand the Ministry of Defense's problems much better could be found among the candidates.
But Yermak won again in the main cabinet on Bankova. Reznikov was left in his post, he is going to strengthen his PR divisions, and considers the situation resolved, since the president calmed down.
Unfortunately, we still lack critical awareness of the army's problems, there is no analysis of what happened and what needs to be done. People in the trenches need solutions today, they need resources and forces on the front line, many organizational and management decisions are needed, for which there are enough resources in the country itself. But the government is trying to shift all responsibility for the army's problems to our Western allies, absolving itself from its own decisions.
