Russian Defense Ministry announced shooting down of 49 allegedly Ukrainian drones. Regions claim that more were shot down. VIDEO
On the night of 31 January, 49 Ukrainian drones were shot down over seven Russian regions.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defence.
According to the ministry's statement, 25 drones were shot down over the Rostov region, eight over the Volgograd region, six over the Kursk region, four over the Yaroslavl region, and two each over Belgorod, Voronezh, and Krasnodar Krai.
At the same time, the authorities of the Kursk region announced almost simultaneously with the release of the ministry's report that 17 drones had been shot down over their area (and not six, as the ministry claims).
Yaroslavl region
The governor of the Yaroslavl region, Mikhail Evraev, also reported almost simultaneously that five drones had been shot down near Yaroslavl - not four, as stated in the ministry's report.
"An attack by five Ukrainian UAVs was repelled on the approach to Yaroslavl. There was no damage or casualties at the crash site," Evraev said.
Some local Telegram channels suggested that the drones could have attacked the Yaroslavl oil refinery, known as Slavneft-Yanos.
Locals reported explosions in the vicinity of the refinery. Roads to the refinery were blocked.
Voronezh region
Several drones have been shot down over Voronezh region, one of them crashed right in Voronezh, said Governor Alexander Gusev. He added that the wreckage of one drone in the south of the region hit a car and injured the driver. The one that fell in Voronezh was knocked off course by electronic warfare, and that the fall "damaged the glazing at an industrial enterprise".
There is no alternative information on this.
Rostov region
The acting governor of Rostov Region, Yuri Slyusar, claims that 25 Ukrainian drones were shot down over the region overnight.
"A total of 25 UAVs were destroyed: in Rostov, Taganrog, Shakhty, Novoshakhtynsk, Azov, Chortkiv, Zhovtnevyi Rural, Tarasivka, Krasnosulyn, Millerovo and Zernohrad districts," the statement said.
The locksmith claims that there were no injuries and the damage was minor: in one area, the drone's wreckage fell on a power line pole and broke the wires.
