Most of the soldiers who were brought home from Russian captivity on Saturday, 19 April, are young people born after 2000.

This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, Censor.NET reports.

The headquarters noted that on 19 April, on the eve of Easter, one of the largest prisoner exchanges took place - 277 Ukrainian defenders were released from Russian captivity.

246 soldiers were returned as part of a prisoner exchange, and another 31 people were released outside the exchange.

Among those released today are defenders from the Mariupol garrison, the National Guard, sailors, soldiers of the TD, the State Special Transport Service, the Air Assault Troops, and the Unmanned Systems Forces.

The Coordination Centre also said that most of those who were returned were young people born after 2000. A female servicewoman who has been in captivity since May 2022 will also see her family today.

Among the soldiers and non-commissioned officers, 268 have been released, and nine officers have been returned. Our men and women defended Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson regions and the city of Mariupol from the enemy.

In total, as part of the negotiation process and exchanges since March 2022, the Coordination Headquarters has released 4,552 Ukrainian citizens from Russian captivity. Outside of the exchanges, an additional 529 people were released from Russian captivity.

The Coordination Headquarters expressed gratitude to the United Arab Emirates for its assistance in organising the exchange.

"The liberated defenders will receive all the necessary medical care. All those released will undergo a medical examination, receive treatment, be provided with everything they need for the first time, and will receive all salary payments for the entire period of their captivity and one-time financial assistance," the statement said.

Today, on 19 April, Ukraine returned another 277 defenders from Russian captivity.
