Biggest monument to Lenin in Ukraine dismantled in Zaporizhia. VIDEO+PHOTOS
In Zaporizhia, Thursday, the monument to Vladimir Lenin on Zaporizka Square (previously - Lenin Square) was finally pulled down.

On Wednesday morning, Fort building company, the contractor, started to saw the concrete base under the monument with the help of diamond ropes. At nightfall, artificial lighting was put on, with a light tower being installed. The works went on through the whole night and morning. At 1:15 p.m., the monument was removed from the pedestal.
The people present at the site marked the pulling down with fireworks and applause.
The 19.8-meter bronze monument was erected in 1964.
On Feb. 26, the Zaporizhia city council allocated UAH 0.3 million (approx. $11,115) to dismantle the monuments to Vladimir Lenin, Felix Dzerzhinsky, and Sergo Ordzhonikidze.
