Crimean farmer Volodymyr Balukh hung up the Ukrainian flag over his house in the village of Serebrianka, Crimea, as mass protests sparked in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities in late 2013. The blue and yellow flag is still flying over his roof after two years of Russian occupation of Crimea.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Hromadske, Balukh refused to take the Russian citizenship. He still uses the Ukrainian ID on the peninsula.

His blatant pro-Ukrainian position led to several arrests and victimization by the Russian occupiers. Crimean kangaroo court controlled by the Russian authorities even sentenced him to 320 hours of correctional labor for insulting a police officer.

"A cop came into my bedroom one morning and started asking: "Who are you?" I told him to get the hell out of my house. The riot police team came immediately after that. They handcuffed me and took away," the farmer said.
