On the afternoon of 28 August, Russian invaders attacked one of Kharkiv’s shopping and entertainment centres.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported by the city’s mayor, Ihor Terekhov.
"The enemy attacked a shopping centre in the Kyivskyi district. We are establishing the details," the statement reads.
According to local Telegram channels, the ‘Karavan’ shopping and entertainment centre was hit by the enemy.
What is known about the shopping centre?
The ‘Karavan’ shopping and entertainment centre in Kharkiv is one of the city’s earliest and largest shopping and entertainment centres, which for many years has been a true flagship of commercial property in Saltivka.
Just a few months before the war – in November 2021 – the management company completed a major refurbishment of the property costing $9.5 million, completely redesigning the internal galleries and food court.
In the spring of 2022, the shopping and entertainment centre came under heavy enemy shelling. The building suffered its worst damage on 7 April 2022, when a large-scale fire broke out on the roof and upper floors after being struck by missiles.
The shopping centre has been closed ever since.
