EU May Postpone Implementation of New Sanctions Against Russia - Media

The European Union is going to agree upon new economic sanctions against Russia on Friday, but will delay their implementation.

Diplomatic sources provided this information to Reuters, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainian Pravda

The European Union intends to give Moscow additional time to see whether it adheres to the truce in Ukraine, diplomats said.

The deadline has not been set yet, the agency says.

At the same time, if the truce is actually implemented, the package of sanctions may not be applied at all.

Two diplomats claimed that EU leaders may provide a week for President Vladimir Putin to demonstrate that he is trying to resolve the conflict, while other sources speak about a period of 72 hours.

"They want to give a chance for ceasefire," one of the diplomats said.
