Canada Pledges Further Sanctions Against Russia

Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs John Baird threatens Russia with tighter restrictive measures unless truce holds in the East of Ukraine.

Baird said Canada remains deeply skeptical of the Russian Federation's willingness to have a major de-escalation in this crisis.

"Obviously we want to see a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine... Let's give a political solution a chance. Obviously if more provocation and more negative aspects emerge, we would advocate strongly for additional measures (against Russia)," he commented after talks with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton on Monday.
