Europe Underestimates Severity of Crisis in Ukraine - PACE
The situation in eastern Ukraine is much more serious than the Western Europe considers.
Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) spokesperson on the humanitarian consequences of the crisis in Ukraine Jim Sheridan claims the EU underestimates the severity of the crisis in Ukraine. The PACE press service stated, Censor.NET reports citing zn.ua.
He noted that Ukraine is facing crisis due to conflict in the Donbas and the Western European countries have not fully assessed its extent and severity.
According to Sheridan, the Ukrainian government itself is just beginning to realize the extent and consequences of the tragedy in the Donbas.
However, he welcomed "the efforts of the authorities as well as the remarkable generosity and solidarity of the people and civil society, reacting to the emergency situation."
He believes that the first step to resolve the crisis should be a cease-fire.
Prime Minister Arsenii Yatseniuk said that the Kremlin bears responsibility for the failure of social payments conduction and delivery of humanitarian assistance in the Donbas.
