EU extended economic sanctions against Russian Federation for 6 months

The European Council decided to extend for six months, until July 31, 2023, restrictive measures against certain sectors of the economy of the Russian Federation due to military aggression against Ukraine.
This is stated in a message on the website of the European Council, Censor.NET informs with reference to Interfax-Ukraine.
"These sanctions, first introduced in 2014 in response to Russia's destabilizing actions in Ukraine, have been significantly expanded since February 2022 in light of Russia's unprovoked and unjustified military aggression against Ukraine," the message states.
In addition to economic sanctions against the Russian Federation, the EU has taken various measures in response to Russia's destabilizing actions against Ukraine. These measures include:
- restriction of economic relations with the illegally occupied Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, as well as with the territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk
- regions not controlled by the government;
- individual restrictive measures (freezing of assets and travel restrictions) for a wide range of individuals and legal entities,
diplomatic measures.
"In the face of Russia's aggressive war, the EU resolutely supports Ukraine and its people and steadfastly supports the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders," the EU stressed.
